A Home with three beds usually sleeps a family or two families
  • Because space is premium, the rooms are used to their capacity.

  • A room like this will typically hold a mother and at least two children, or

  • A single woman and a mother and child
9
Another home in use
  • Rooms are not crowded with furniture such as dressers and chest of drawers, but each has some storage under the beds and in closets.  Some also have these items, but remember, space is a premium.
10
Another home in a single room
  • Bed will accommodate one adult or a mother and a small child.   It may also be in a single small room.
11

Home to another family
  • Most women get out of their homes with what they have on.  Much of what you see here was acquired after entering the shelter.

Computers are available for participants
  • Here one participant is pointing out that another participant left a bottle of liquid near our valuable computers!
15
A view of one of the chest of drawers
  • Small furnishings fit best in our room to provide the most possible space for the families.
16
Another sitting area
  • This is the multi-purpose room.  It has one of the old televisions (one of the few in the house) in it and it is used to show videos for entertainment; to show training videos when instructional programs are being shown.
17
The Children’s play room
  • This room is located in the expansion part of Safe Passage.  This is just one section of the room

  • We also provide limited work force/college preparation

  • Family Crisis Center of Prince George's County
  • Since October 13, 1981, the Family Crisis Center of Prince George’s County, Inc. has been the only safe house for victims of abuse and the primary service provider to families experiencing domestic violence in the county. Our mission is to promote and facilitate the elimination of violence in intimate relationships by providing counseling, education and support services for women, children, and men.
  • Twenty years ago the Family Crisis Center’s primary service was to provide safe, emergency shelter to battered women and their children. Over time, the agency has expanded its services to provide families experiencing domestic violence with comprehensive wrap-around services. We seek to accomplish our mission through a variety of program components.
  • The Family Crisis Center is a private, 501©3 non-profit, human service organization governed by a member, volunteer Board of Directors. Our Board of Directors represent a diverse mix of community leaders, professionals, and activists with extensive experience in social justice advocacy. Funding for the agency comes from a variety of sources, including the Prince George’s County Government, the Maryland Department of Human Resources, Victims of Crime Assistance, and the Office of the Governor of the State of Maryland. Additionally, program components and services are supported by private donations and ongoing fundraising events.
