Family Crisis Center, Inc. of Prince George’s County

Welcome to the Family Crisis Center's website.  We are glad that you stopped by.  If at any time you feel unsafe visiting here, please hit the exist button on your right.

Again this year, Members of the Family Crisis Center, Inc. of Prince George's County (Family Crisis Center), went into their pockets to provide staff with a wonderful luncheon off site.

While the Family Crisis Center's staff was off having a wonderful luncheon, members of the Board gave their time volunteering at the shelter.  This was a unique experience for some of them, and old hat to others who have volunteered in the past.  Board members answered the telephones, played games with the children, served lunch and snacks, and took good care of the women and children living at the shelter.

One Board Member had this to say about her time at the shelter:  "Much of my time at the shelter was spent talking with a woman who had come to the shelter the previous day. She had been horribly abused by her husband and even had to be hospitalized due to domestic violence during her 8th month of pregnancy. She was so grateful to have a safe place for her children. During this holiday season, I am very grateful to our staff who work tirelessly for abused women and their children in PG County!"

Many thanks to the board members who made contributions toward the staff luncheon and to those who staffed the shelter with Karen, Charline, Stan and Sharon - and three University of Maryland students who also helped to make our luncheon possible.

As always, THANK YOU for your support.

The holiday season is here, and we at the Family Crisis Center, Inc. of Prince George's County are highly impressed with the public response to our request to PLEASE ADOPT one of our FAMILIES!  You, the public, responded in hugh numbers.  So far, more than 60 families have been adopted.

Because families are still coming in, it is not to late to adopt-a-family for the holidays, all you need to do is call us (too late to send it in), and we will provide you a family and their holiday wish list.  You can personally deliver your gifts to the Family Crisis Center and see the difference that you make in the lives of our families.  Because domestic violence does not take a holiday, you can still bring gift and/or financial support for our families to the Family Crisis Center.  We will be open throughout the holidays (our shelter is open 24 hours a day, with no days closed).  All deliveries are accepted at 3601 Taylor Street, Brentwood, MD 20722.

Want to help, but can't give gifts or money!  Not a problem.  You can volunteer your time during this holiday season.  By volunteering, you will give some of FCC's staff members an opportunity to spend at least one day of the holiday season home with their family.

Interested?  Call, email or stop by 3601 Taylor Street and become a volunteer, if you can contribute four (4) hours or more of your time during this busy season.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL OF YOU, FROM ALL OF US AT THE FAMILY CRISIS CENTER!

In an effort to sustain its programs and to improve the quality of services, the Family Crisis Center is seeking more grant funding.  The Agency has partnered with the Department of Social Services, Prince George's County Police Department and the State's Attorney's Office for a grant to better work with women over 50 who experience domestic and family violence.  This partnership will facility training of officers, prosecutor, judges, staff and other community partners in recognizing the signs of domestic violence in the elderly population.  It will also facility elderly victims through court companionship as well as before and after court support.

The Family Crisis Center has also partnered on a grant with Maryland Crime Victims' Resource Center, Inc.  This grant will help the Family Crisis Center provide better legal assistance to women experiencing domestic violence and addressing their issues in court.

The House of Ruth partnering with the Family Crisis Center recently obtained a grant from the Abell Foundation in Baltimore.  This grant will enable the Family Crisis Center to provide more beds and services to women and children experiencing domestic violence.  Further details on this grant will be posted later this week.
